The Harvard is a round-toed penny loafer made from unlined shell cordovan. Worn without socks, it is the perfect summer shoe; yet its generous shape makes it equally comfortable worn with woolen socks when winter comes around. The characteristic slit strap design originated in the 1930s as a stylistic twist on the standard loafer; many people would store a penny in the slit incase they needed to make an emergency phone call. This model has the distinctive ‘high walled’ shape that is typical of the mid-century Ivy league look. This original version of the Harvard has been crafted on Crockett & Jones’ new 314 last, which features a generous straight fit and a round toe. The rounded toe lends the shoe exceptional fitting qualities, making it a wonderful day-to-day option. Founded in Northampton in 1879, Crockett & Jones a fifth generation family-owned company.
